What professions are most likely to get caught drink driving?

A study by Money Super Market has revealed those most likely to risk drink driving and consequently get caught drink driving within the UK.

The likelihood of them drinking and driving also has an impact on the price they pay for their insurance policy.

Topping the table with 1 in 10 was plumbers whom of which had a drink or drug conviction on their licence.

Those most commonly caught drink drivers

  • Plumbers with 10.7 in a 1000
  • Builders with 6.6 in a 1000
  • Ground worker 6.5 in a 1000
  • Labourer with 6.1 in a 1000
  • Roofer with 5.4 in a 1000
  • Scaffolder with 5.3 in a 1000
  • Plasterer with 4.6 in a 1000
  • Landscape Gardner with 4 in a 1000
  • Construction worker with 4 in a 1000
  • Bricklayer with 3.7 in a 1000

Data from 6 million car insurance quotes was analysed by the insurance comparison provider over a 12 month period.

The data also shows builders & ground workers also commonly running the gauntlet of drink driving.

The data quite clearly shows tradesman being the most commonly caught drink drivers. Although driving whilst under the influence is not acceptable, many tradesman start extremely early in the morning which is when many get caught and remain over the limit after drinking to many the night before.

Un-surprisingly, those least likely to be caught were in fact police officers.

In England and Wales, the legal limit to drive after alcohol consumption is 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath, 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood or 107 milligrams per 100 millilitres of urine.

Your body on average is capable of processing roughly a unit of alcohol per hour but this differs greatly depending age, weight sex and amount of food consumed prior to drinking.

With the Christmas period fast approaching and many people hitting the town for big nights out, the risk of being caught drink driving increases.

It is also recommended that suitable transport be found before heading for a night out. Even if you only plan on having 1 drink, many nights start with 1 drink and end up on 10!
