If there is one thing that drives up the cost of car or fleet insurance, it’s a crash! But did you know about these three weird reasons as to why you could crash your car?
It is in the driver’s genes
That is right, you can genetically be a bad driver. At least you have got a good excuse if you do something wrong. After all, it is not as if you can help your genes. So how do your genes affect your driving? The human body releases BDNF, which is a protein known as Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor. In short, this refers to the brain’s capacity to renew any information it receives. This is something you need a lot of in order to be a good driver. Therefore, if you are an individual with lesser BDNF, then you are more likely to be a worse driver. This means you could find yourself calling a lawyer simply because the person driving the opposing vehicle has incompatible driving genes.
The safer you feel, the worse you drive
It is actually predicted that when you feel safe you free up opportunities to be more reckless in other areas. This is something that applies to driving. For example, if you have all of the top safety equipment, your seat belt securely fastened, your mobile phone is switched off, your radio is turned down, etc – then, apparently, you are more likely to drive worse than usual. This is because you feel secure, so you let go of some of your inhibitions. Nevertheless, if you are driving an old unreliable car, with dodgy breaking, and your seatbelt unfastened, you are more likely to make sure that your driving is up to scratch. You can also attribute this to age, as younger people often have a lower sense of danger. This, coupled with their lack of driving experience, is why car insurance for young drivers tends to be a bit more expensive. However, if you drive safely, you can easily reduce this year-on-year.
Your car smells
The third and final reason why someone may crash into you or vice versa is of a smelly car. Would you believe that bad odours can affect the way in which people drive? This is a conclusion which was reached by those at the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation. This is because bad smells are actually linked to irritation, aggression, and bad memories. Therefore, this is said to make you more erratic and aggressive behind the wheel.
