Fleet drivers join Advanced Driver Training scheme

Undertaking exacting assessments

The Newcastle-based electrical distribution firm currently operates an extensive fleet comprised of 190 vehicles in total.

Although all drivers already undertake rigorous driving skills assessments before being approved to drive the firm’s fleet vehicles, the new scheme empowers personnel to enhance their driving abilities in their own time and acquire an Advanced Driver qualification.

Performance and driver safety manager for Northern Powergrid, John Wilkinson, commented:

“With some of our employees covering more than 30,000 miles each year in the course of work, we’re really pleased with the uptake of our offer to support our employees in becoming safer drivers.”

He added that Northern Powergrid fleet drivers were required to operate around the clock every day of the year, in all weather and on a mix of rural and urban roads, and that the firm would be considering more opportunities to build their road skills in the future.
