Compared to a salaried employee using a company vehicle to deliver goods, this is quite a change.Continue reading

Van Mayhem – Van Registrations Hit an All-Time High
August has seen a healthy increase in the registrations of vans throughout the UK, and the 1.5% increase has cemented its position as the best August performance in 12 years.
Whilst overall registrations have increased by 1.5%, smaller vans in the category of 2.0-2.5 Tonnes have seen a much more dramatic increase – one of 39.9%!
SMMT have also reported an increase in the amount of registrations for pick up vans, which also indicate a healthy growth of 8%.
Whilst smaller vans conquered the growth curve last month, heavier vans did not favour so well as SMMT reports demand for 2.5-3.5 tonne vehicles dropping by 0.6%. This makes August the fifth consecutive month that the downward trend has continued.
Mike Hawes, chief executive of SMMT has commented on Augusts growth, stating that:
“August is traditionally one of the quietest months of the year, ahead of September’s plate change, so the moderate increase in the new van market is welcome news.
“While year-to-date figures show demand easing, this is in line with market expectations and overall registration volumes remain at a very high level. This stabilising of the market is indicative of what we can expect for the remainder of the year”
Further to Hawes’ statement, Sue Robinson, NFDA Director, also commented on the growth of van registrations last month:
“It is positive to see that the new light commercial market grew moderately in August by 1.5% in what is a low volume month in terms of registrations as customers wait for the new registration plate in September”
“The light commercial market is showing encouraging signs of stability, especially considering the challenges being faced by the industry, and it seems set to continue to perform at these levels”.
